This summer marks an extraordinary chapter in the story of offshore sailing: the Rolex Fastnet Race celebrates its 100th anniversary—an achievement that cements its status as one of the most prestigious and demanding races in the world of yacht racing.
A race steeped in history
Since 1925, the Fastnet has pushed the limits of endurance, seamanship, and navigation, drawing sailors from across the globe to face the untamed elements of the North Atlantic. From its origins as a daring challenge among seven boats to the massive international spectacle it is today, the race has evolved—but the thrill remains unchanged.
This year, a fleet of over 400 yachts will gather for the 2025 edition, departing from Cowes on the Isle of Wight on 26th July. Among them are our own race teams—made up of highly skilled sailors and bold adventurers—who are setting out to conquer the famous 695-nautical mile journey. The route leads past the rugged coastlines of southern Ireland and around the legendary Fastnet Rock, before racing toward the finish in Cherbourg, France.
An event Like No Other
Born out of a vision to test human resilience on the open sea, the Fastnet Race quickly gained a reputation as the ultimate offshore challenge. Over the decades, it has become a rite of passage for ocean sailors, admired not only for its technical demands but also for its ability to foster teamwork, determination, and unforgettable stories.
From fierce gales and tactical battles to moments of quiet reflection under starlit skies, every Fastnet journey is uniquely personal. It’s a race where experience meets instinct, and legends are made.
Did You Know?
The race takes its name from Fastnet Rock, often referred to as “Ireland’s Teardrop,” the last piece of land seen by emigrants heading west.
The course used to end in Plymouth but was extended to finish in Cherbourg starting in 2021.
In the most recent editions, top-performing yachts have completed the course in under 48 hours.
As we mark 100 years of the Fastnet Race, we salute the generations of sailors who’ve braved its waters—and look ahead to a thrilling new chapter in 2025.
