Wrapping up the Helly Hansen Warsash Spring Series 2016

Sailing Logic Skipper and Race Coach, Mason King, wraps up the spring series.

Well, the Helly Hansen Warsash Spring Series came to an end last weekend for us all on Rocket dog II and what better way to end it then with a sailing team from the sponsors Helly Hansen themselves.

Jim Bennett - my fantastically able first mate - and I wanted the series to be an opportunity for the crews to learn and develop their sailing and racing, knowing they were competing against some of the Solent's best racing crews and I am very happy and proud of an overall sixth position at the end of the series.

Our best result of the series was second on the water and 4th place on handicap and we have held our own throughout the series.  We have always worked hard to bring the boat and crews home safely.  I think the format of an evening debrief over video clips of our training days, along with crew evening meals, have really helped with the learning and enjoyment.

We have been assisted by some great second mates, Justen, Jen, Tanya and Steve.  Also deserving a mention is Rosie, who has been the only crew member to be with us throughout the whole of the series and now has a SL loyalty card!  I consider her part of the furniture on RDII now.   Her racing and understanding of the sport has come on leaps and bounds and she has been great company too, although the crisp and chocolate bill has hit SL hard!  We have all had some great laughs and every single weekend I have gone away with a big grin on my face, feeling truly privileged and proud to be part of a great team of sailors and support staff.  All the crew members have been real characters and I hope we have given them something to remember and come back for later this year or next.

I know that Sailing Logic have some plans for progressing racing crews beyond this kind of event so watch this space....and don't forget SL also do Race Development and Spinnaker Handling courses!

Lastly, I'd like to thank Sailing Logic for inviting me to skipper and coach for them for the series, and Prue who has coordinated every weekend seamlessly.  Most of all though, I'd like to thank all those people I have raced with who have made the whole series so enjoyable for me....we will return, with even more success I'm sure.

TTFN.
