Big Red on Tour

Training has started for the crew of Lion Logic in the 2014 Rolex Middle Sea Race. For the first time, we have decided to take our ‘Big Red’ Maltese flag branded spinnaker out to Malta for the Middle Sea Race!  It is hard to believe that 'big red' was racing in the Hamble Winter Series on Sunday, then was sailing in Malta on Monday!

Hopefully the local spectators will enjoy seeing their 8m high national emblem flown around the course!

This is also the first year that Sailing Logic have delivered our own boat from Hamble to Malta, exclusively to participate in this fantastic race, providing lots of exciting delivery legs on the way there and the return delivery legs!

Skipper Tm Thubron will be joined by Jim Bennett as co-skipper. Both are extremely capable and competitive skippers. Amongst the crew we have some David B and Olivia K who have both raced in the RORC Caribbean 600 with Tim previously and James M who has just completed his second Rolex Fastnet campaign with us. We are also delighted to welcome on board a few crew new to the Sailing Logic family; Nick who is a member of the Lloyds of London Yacht Club, Geoff who is an experienced race skipper himself and Matthew, who has his RYA Yachtmaster ticket, and is a keen windsurfer – but has never raced offshore before!

So it’s a fairly typical mix for a Sailing Logic event, and we hope that the couple of days of training will help the crew unify and become a team.

Today they will be mainly out on the water practising manoeuvres, and acclimatising – as it is an enviable 27-28C there at the moment, with only a gentle 8 knot breeze! Tomorrow is the warm-up coastal race and the forecast looks likely to suddenly see winds of 27-30 knots, gusting higher! As well as winning (obviously!) the main focus will be to not damage anything ahead of the main event!

Good luck team Lion Logic!
