2nd by a second!!!

Wow, what close racing was had on Race 4 of the Spring Series!!

Sailing Logic had 3 identical Reflex 38’s racing this Sunday, and it went right down to the wire.

The forecast was fortunately very kind to the fleet, and the expected Force 7-8 gusts did not appear, but the sun did, a very welcome sight for everyone! Shifty conditions saw a short postponement to racing when there was only 5 knots of wind, but this built to between 10-20 knots, depending on which part of the course you were in. Making the right calls for the rights sails at the right time, made this a very challenging race.

Puma Logic’s closest rival, the 40.7 Interceptor did not turn up to race this weekend, so it left Puma out well ahead of the fleet and leading them around the course. This always puts pressure on the navigator to make sure that they have written the course down correctly as there is no-one else to follow! Racing for the first time this weekend was the Corby 33, No Retreat who put in a great first time performance. After almost 2 hours of racing Puma was pipped on handicap by just 1 second, although took line honours by some 3 minutes – hard luck Puma – I am sure next week they will be on fire! It’s interesting to also note that No Retreat had pro sailors aboard which makes Puma’s result particularly impressive.  You can follow the results on the Warsash Spring Series Website here.

Jaguar Logic continued to improve this week, and was biting on the heels of No Retreat nearly all the way round the course. A completely remodelled crew with some 5 changes, did fantastically well, and only missed third place by 9 seconds on handicap, a great result and one which I am sure they will improve upon next weekend.

Lion Logic did themselves proud with a completely new team from London law firm Linklaters aboard, 2 of which had never been on a boat before. A little bit of a baptism of fire on Saturday’s training day when there was torrential rain and strong winds, but they didn’t jump ship, and came a creditable 6th place, out of a fleet of 9, so well done team! They were also seen with a spinnaker up on Saturday‘s training day in up to 30 knots breeze so hats off to them!!
